THE MICHIGAN NURSES FOUNDATION

The Michigan Nurses Foundation (MNF) was created in 2000 to advance nursing and nursing education by awarding educational scholarships and research grants to nurses and nursing students as well as support for nurses recovering from substance use or mental health issues. Through the MNF, there are opportunities for those who wish to provide a legacy today for tomorrow’s nurses. The Michigan Nurses Foundation is funded through private contributions and fundraising activities. These funds are held and invested by the Capital Region Community Foundation.

Providing Nursing Student Scholarships

To meet its mission, the Foundation awards a minimum of four $1,000 scholarships each year. The applicant must be a student currently enrolled in a Michigan college/school of nursing that grants a certificate for practical nursing, an associate, baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing, and be in good academic standing.

Nurse Leader for Safe Patient Care

The Michigan Nurses Foundation is pleased to announce this scholarship on behalf of contributors Diane and John Goddeeris. Applications may be sent to the MNF at any time during the year. Awards will be up to $2,000 per MNA member to attend a conference in a specialty area or up to $3,000 total for two members to attend the same conference.

Providing Research Grants

In line with its mission, the MNF also manages the Research in Nursing Grant Award which is a research award up to $5,000 designed to fund either conduct or utilization of research
in practice.

The principal investigator for the Research in Nursing Grant Award will be an RN who is licensed to practice in Michigan, an MNA member, and has or is working toward a master's or doctoral degree.

Financial Assistance for Recovering Nurses

The Michigan Nurses Foundation provides financial assistance to healthcare professionals enrolled in the Health Professional Recovery Program (HPRP).  Currently, the Foundation is only doing so through direct support provided to treatment providers.  Treatment providers, in turn, then provide financial scholarships to nurses enrolled in their treatment programs.
